There was a time years ago when I was got sick a lot and I didn’t know why I was so ill. My stomach would start cramping and I would get painful indigestion that would last for about a week. These symptoms usually start at night, often just before bedtime. I couldn’t figure out what was causing this problem. This was during a time I had started weight lifting. I wanted to put on some muscle and firm up a bit so I started eating peanut butter sandwiches and drinking milk at night to get some extra protein.
After a couple of nights, I noticed my stomach started to bloat and I was getting indigestion. So one day I thought to myself, maybe I am eating too late at night and I should back off the peanut butter sandwiches and milk. So I stopped eating them. And sure enough the symptoms went away. So I decided to take a break. However, when I started up again with that peanut butter and milk diet, my problems reappeared. Even though I started eating these meals earlier in the day rather than late at night, I was still getting sick. So I began to wonder if the problem was the milk and peanut butter. I had never had a problem with them before, so what was the deal now? So again, I stopped eating them and again the sickness vanished.
Fast forward a few weeks. As it happened, I stumbled across an article (this was back in the late 1980s), that talked about lactose intolerance. It laid out what the symptoms were. And it seemed that all the symptoms that were mentioned mimicked my own. This article also highlighted the fact that lactose intolerance is a particular problem for Black folk, especially those over thirty years old. Bingo? That was it. I was lactose intolerant. I had to stay away from dairy products. All this time I had been poisoning myself and didn’t even know it. The very food I was eating to help me build strong muscles was making me as sick as a dog.
What’s the moral of this story? Well, for me it’s that sometimes we can think we are doing something that will benefit us but in the end it actually hurts us. This is especially true in the spiritual realm. For years when I was in the Christian church I was being poisoned. I was being poisoned by victuals that looked good and tasted good. I was even told that they were good for me. However, now I know I was being slowly poisoned…little by little so that I would not recognize the symptoms right away.
Most people who learn that they are poisoning themselves or who find out they have a severe allergic reaction to something, stop what they are doing immediately. In the case of an allergic reaction, they try to avoid the allergen causing the problem at all costs. The thing is, they do not try to wean themselves off of it gradually. They drop the habit like a hot plate. However, when I show some people that their inner self is being poisoned by Christianity they often agree with me. But they want to wean themselves off of it very slowly. They don’t want to drop their belief like a bad habit. Why?
That’s the million dollar question. Are we holding on to the poison because of fear of letting go of something we have been taught all our lives? Or, are we holding on because we find comfort in what is familiar? Or maybe we are holding on because something inside of us does not want to acknowledge the truth? Each of us must examine ourselves to find out the answer. Scriptures tell us that the time is coming (and we are in the last days) when many will be deceived, deluded and damned. Do you know why? Because many will not be lovers of the truth.
Read what it says at 2 Thessalonians 2:
9 Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders,
10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.
11 And for this cause YAH shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:

Christians say we are all one. But that is not what YAH says. YAH says He has only known one family out of all the earth…and He did not say Christians. In fact no where in Scripture will you find the Most High or His Son refer to Christians. Ever. That word Christians only appears 3 times throughout Scripture. If it is so important to be one, why doesn’t YAH, the MesiYAH or even the Apostles ever call themselves Crhistians? Christian was a derogatory term. It was an insult that Romans and Greeks hurled at Children of the Way–YAH’s way. That’s what the Apostles and their followers were known as…Children of the way… of YAH’s Way. Look at what Shaul (Apostle Paul) had to say: Acts 22:4 NLT “And I persecuted the followers of the Way, hounding some to death, arresting both men and women and throwing them in prison.” Apostle Paul did not call them followers of Christ or Christians did he? He called them what the follower’s of the MessiYAH called themselves–People of the Way. Interesting isn’t it what the MessiYAH said at John 14:6 about himself, “I am the truth, the WAY, and the life”.
In the end we all must be lovers of the truth in order to escape damnation. We must love the truth even when it is not comfortable or convenient. Are you a lover of the truth, or are you being consumed by some pretty poison?
